Carat’s Epstein steps into global role as DAN moves to further integrate media and performance

Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN) has reshuffled the leadership of its media and performance businesses as it bids to “transform” the offer for clients by further integrating the two.

Michael Epstein, previously chief executive of Carat US, has been named chief executive of Carat Global. He will report into Peter Huijboom, DAN’s global chief executive of media, performance and global clients.

Epstein will be based in New York but will travel to London for meetings with Carat’s global team. He will continue to lead the agency’s US operations until his successor is named.

Accenture Interactive founder Christine Removille, previously global president of Carat, will move into the role of global president, media and performance transformation at the holding company, also reporting to Huijboom.

She said a portion of her new role would involve assessing the “potential of integrating media and performance” within the network.

The company stated Epstein will take on Removille’s global remit in the role of chief executive, rather than president.

In a statement, DAN cited Epstein’s success in winning new business as cause for his promotion. Originally joining Carat in 2013 as chief strategy officer, the Mindshare vet led his team to win media business with United Airlines, Intel and P&G in the US, as well as retaining the Microsoft account globally.

“Michael’s track record speaks for itself and is built on a rare ability to blend the science of media planning and product with the art of creating lasting relationships with clients,” said Huijboom. “The breadth and the strength of his leadership will be a huge asset as we continue to transform our media and performance business to meet the needs of our clients.”

Carat, Vizeum, Dentsu X and iProspect currently sit under the central leadership of Huijboom. DAN hopes to increase the ability for the shops to share services and resource under this model, and thus drive "more consistency and efficiency for us and our clients", according to a company spokesperson.
