A priceless coffee morning
I think it’s been 3 years now, definitely 2 anyway – I’ve been attending a meeting in central Edinburgh with some like minded souls who are interested in sharing and learning about all things social. Attendees have been TV producers, poets, Ad agency giants, Investors, product designers, students – generally geeks of all types that have an interest in media and have been dabbling in social media.
Mike Coulter and our hosts Carina and Victor at CentOtre (103) George Street have been the driving force and accommodated our noisey Friday morning banter – there’s no formality, just turn up and sit down in our designated area, say hello – and away you go. I have learnt so much over the years from this group – not least the opportunities that it has provided. Spending time with Ewan and Darcie at Channel 4ip, giving seminars with Mike to Business Gateway, testing new social media product launches, asking for help or advice, putting people together that could benefit from an introduction – hell I’ve even recommended it to recruitment companies. The gem of course has been learning about and taking part in 38 Minutes – which is Scotland and Northern Irelands answer for Media people to Bebo for the over educated…
The dominance of this group are a core of freelance very knowledgeable social media people (some have since gone on to work with bigger companies) however it occurred to me that, right there in that room we could solve just about any problem or provide the solution to almost any situation that involved social media. So why don’t we harness it – why don’t we create this social media collective “agency” that answers all those questions you ever had or wanted to know about social media?
I learnt the other day about this agency from down south, let’s call them an ‘Academy’ who were promoting lessons to both public and private sector business on how to use these new tools to better manage and promote your company or product through in Glasgow and in Edinburgh – I thought cheeky b***ards, their knowledge bank is less than 3 of the regular attendees at #EdCM (Edinburgh Coffee Morning) and their case studies are fluff at best.
Maybe it’s because we are all so busy working our butts off that the thought of coordinating a formal money making machine that looks after or represents Scotland on a global scale with regard to using social media – do you have the answer?
Get in touch if you do, or better still come along, join in and share your knowledge of how to harness this phenomenal group of like minded people?
You can find us at: 8:00am every Friday at CentOtre
I love #EdCM (Mike Coulters Stop Frame video of a typical Edinburgh Coffee Morning)
